There was great access to the superstructure area, and the delineated walking-path from bow to stern offered detailed access. I visited the ship solo and walked through on my own. The main difference between navy ships today and navy ships of USS Iowa's era is the tech incorporated into their designs. Though the design and purpose of cruise ships have changed between Queen Mary's decommissioning and now, naval ship design and purpose hasn't changed much at all. The reason is so that those who haven't been aboard a ship can see the incredible difference between a cruise ship and a naval warship. I recommend that if you visit the USS Iowa that you also visit the RMS Queen Mary 15 minutes to the South.
